Find answers to common questions about VisionFocus.

  1. Visit the Chrome Web Store (link coming soon)
  2. Click “Add to Chrome”
  3. Grant the necessary permissions
  4. The VisionFocus icon will appear in your Chrome toolbar

VisionFocus requires permissions to:

  • Access and block websites based on your settings
  • Store your blocklist, timer settings, and vision statements locally
  • Display notifications for timer alerts

All data is stored locally on your device. We do not collect or transmit your personal data.

Currently, VisionFocus is only available for Chrome. Support for other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave) may work but is not officially supported.

  1. Click the VisionFocus icon in your toolbar
  2. Navigate to the “Block” tab
  3. Enter a website URL (e.g., youtube.com or twitter.com)
  4. Click “Add to Blocklist”

The website will be immediately blocked.

Can I set time limits instead of blocking completely?

Yes! VisionFocus supports daily time limits:

  • 5 minutes
  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 60 minutes

Once you exceed the daily limit, the site will be blocked for the rest of the day.

Does the YouTube-specific blocker work on embedded videos?

The YouTube blocker blocks access to youtube.com and all its subdomains. It does not block embedded YouTube videos on other websites.

If you need to prevent access to YouTube content entirely, you may need to block specific sites that host embedded videos as well.

Yes, you can unblock websites when needed. On the block page, click the “Unblock” button and confirm in the dialog. However, every unblock is tracked and counted to help you stay accountable. VisionFocus shows you how many times you’ve unblocked each site.

  • Free: Up to 10 websites
  • Premium: Unlimited websites

The Focus Timer supports the Pomodoro Technique:

  1. Set your focus duration (default: 25 minutes)
  2. Click “Start Timer”
  3. Work until the timer alerts you
  4. Take a short break (5 minutes)
  5. Repeat

You can customize timer durations in the Timer settings.

Yes, you can pause and resume the timer at any time. Your progress will be saved.

Will I get notifications when the timer ends?

Yes, VisionFocus will send a browser notification when your timer ends, even if the popup is closed.

A Daily Vision is a motivational statement or goal that appears on blocked pages. It reminds you why you’re blocking distractions and keeps you focused on what matters.

  • Free: One daily vision statement
  • Premium: Multiple vision statements (rotate daily or manually)

Not in the current version. Vision statements are text-only for now.

Premium ($1.99/month or $24/year - 33% off) includes:

  • Unlimited website blocking (Free: 10 websites)
  • Advanced timer options
  • Multiple vision statements
  • Custom themes for blocked pages
  • Priority email support

Click “Upgrade to Premium” in the VisionFocus popup and follow the payment instructions.

Yes, you can cancel your Premium subscription at any time. You’ll retain Premium features until the end of your billing period.

Not currently, but we may offer trials in the future. The Free version is fully functional for basic use.

What data does the Analytics dashboard show?

The Analytics dashboard shows:

  • Total time saved (blocked distractions)
  • Number of blocks triggered
  • Most frequently blocked sites
  • Focus timer statistics

All data is stored locally on your device.

Yes! Go to Settings → Export/Import and click “Export Settings”. This saves your blocklist, timers, and vision statements as a JSON file.

How do I import settings on another device?

  1. Export settings from your original device
  2. Install VisionFocus on the new device
  3. Go to Settings → Export/Import
  4. Click “Import Settings” and select your exported JSON file

A blocked site is still loading. What should I do?

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Check that the URL is correctly added to your blocklist (e.g., youtube.com not https://youtube.com)
  3. Try restarting Chrome
  4. If the issue persists, report it on GitHub

The timer notification isn’t appearing. How do I fix this?

  1. Check that Chrome notifications are enabled for VisionFocus
  2. Go to Chrome Settings → Privacy and Security → Site Settings → Notifications
  3. Ensure VisionFocus is allowed to send notifications

I lost my settings after reinstalling. Can I recover them?

If you exported your settings before reinstalling, you can import them. Otherwise, settings are stored locally and cannot be recovered after uninstallation. We recommend exporting your settings regularly.
